Recommendation to Decriminalize Sex Work in Rhode Island
This article is an excellent overview of the history and recent efforts to decriminalize sex work in Rhode Island.
A new report from the Rhode Island study commission found that criminalizing adult consensual sex work has only increased violence, exploitation, and STI transmission. The commission included legislators, law enforcement, sex workers, and medical professionals who spent two years studying the issue before making recommendations.
We’ll keep you posted about whether or not legislators in RI will be ready to implement any of the recommendations of this report. These measures would make it easier for sex workers to report crimes committed against them, and harder for police officers to um, “have sex”, with anyone in their custody.
