Mutual Aid Shout Out: Butterfly
We hope you’ll check out the work of Butterfly, the Asian and Migrant Sex Workers Support Network based in Toronto Canada. Butterfly is a grassroots organization formed by sex workers, social workers, and legal and health professionals. They offer a 24/7 Emergency Support Hotline in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, as well as outreach, advocacy, legal rights workshops, counseling services, health referrals, and anti-discrimination public education to Asian and migrant sex workers.
They are the co-authors, along with a coalition that includes Red Canary Song, of the report “Un-Licensed: Asian Migrant Massage Licensure and the Racialized Policing of Poverty.” This research was foundational in the drafting of the Massage License Decriminalization Act. To support migrant justice, and Butterfly’s work advocating for the dignity, respect, and human rights of workers, check out the calls to action on Butterflysw.org.
