Tlazōlteōtl was the Mesoamerican (Aztec) deity of sex, carnality, sin, vice, impurity, temptation, fertility, purification, and absolution. Her priestesses practiced temple prostitution. Before being worshipped by the Aztects, she was worshiped by the Huastec peoples in La Huasteca region (the modern states of Hidalgo, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas); worship became less common when the Spanish conquered the Aztecs in 1521.
